OLD BRIDGE TOWNSHIP TO HOLD COVID-19 MEMORIAL

Old Bridge Township, NJ- As one-year approaches since the first recorded COVID related death in Old Bridge, Mayor Owen Henry announced today that Old Bridge Township will honor the 150 known Old Bridge residents to date who have died due to COVID-19 at an upcoming memorial service.

“To honor those we have lost in Old Bridge to COVID-19, a candle lighting ceremony and a 150 second moment of reflection will take place at the upcoming March 9th Township Council meeting.  We want to let those who have suffered the loss of a loved one or close friend know we are in mourning with them.  Unfortunately, we know this number will grow and I urge all residents to do their part in preventing the spread of the virus,” said Mayor Owen Henry.

Also, Old Bridge is symbolically placing empty chairs on the Municipal Complex lawn and shall set a candle on each seat to honor Old Bridge residents who will not join their loved ones at the dinner table. Each candle and a “Deep in our Hearts” floral arrangement will remain lit until dawn the next morning.

“As residents pass by, they will remember that each empty chair reflects a life lost.  The grief of this loss must be recognized.  Also, the impact of COVID-19 on the entire community must be acknowledged and reflected upon before we can move forward” added Mayor Henry.

Old Bridge residents can view the ceremony live on OBTV and YouTube.  Old Bridge will soon begin efforts to determine a permanent COVID-19 Memorial within the Township.
