LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COMBATING HUNGER

Old Bridge Township, NJ – The Old Bridge Township Food Bank has recently received numerous donations from various individuals and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. One such individual is an up-and-coming junior at Old Bridge High School named Matea Mandic.

Mandic created a school club called Old Bridge High School Fights Hunger, and for seven weeks straight they have donated food items to the food bank. In total, their contributions have weighed in at over 1,000 pounds of food. Additionally, the campaign has partnered with America’s Grow-A-Grow, Bridgepointe Townhome Association and Walmart.

“I am so impressed by the overwhelming support to the township’s food bank. Mandic is a smart student with a bright future ahead of him. It is admirable of him to have created such an amazing campaign in order to help the township,” stated Mayor Owen Henry.

“Having a community conscious individual like Mandic stop by week after week at the food bank with donations has been a blessing. The Old Bridge Food Bank is beyond grateful for the continued support we’ve received from him over the last three months,” expressed Anahita Feltz, manager of the Old Bridge Food Bank.

The Old Bridge Food Bank is always in need of food and toiletries throughout the year. Many people only donate during the holidays or only provide food. While this is much appreciated and needed, hunger knows no boundaries and it is important to be aware of the common items we may take for granted.

Toiletry items needed include toilet paper, diapers, shampoo, conditioner, hand and bar soap, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Donations can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Old Bridge Food Bank.
