CONSTRUCTION WORK UPDATE
NJDOT Route 18 from Rues Lane to Texas Road
NJDOT is continuing the Route 18 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, from Rues Lane (East Brunswick) to Texas Road (Marlboro Township), which will include, but not be limited to, fiber cable install, guide rail installation, concrete curb, handicap ramps, road reconstruction, and milling and paving beginning on /or about Monday, July 30, 2018.
More recently the work has included the removal of large diameter trees within the median area south of the County Route 527/ 516 interchange. While the NJDOT has a policy for the reforestation of trees that are remove on construction projects, the trees within the Route 18 project in the median, are considered a safety hazard for the motoring public. This is according to NJDOT design standards for “clear zone” which is required a certain distance from the roadway where there are no obstructions, should a car leaves the roadway. The trees currently within the Route 18 median have been hit by vehicles in the past and unfortunately had to be removed.
