Bundled newspaper, bundled corrugated cardboard, mixed paper, textiles, commingled glass, aluminum, steel and plastic containers are collected curbside. Containers for mixed paper and commingled recyclables are available in the Public Works building. Recyclables in plastic bags are not accepted. 2008 Schedule

*2008 Holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. If your collection day falls on any of these holidays, collection is resecheduled for the following Saturday. Containers: A 20 gallon round blue container would be used for commingled recyclables. You may use your own container, however, the containers must be marked with your name and address. Commingled recyclables include metal cans, glass containers, and plastic. A 14 gallon rectangular blue container would be used for mixed paper. If you have more mixed paper than you can fit in your rectangular container, place the overflow in a brown paper grocery bags (not plastic grocery bags). Recyclables not accepted include: drinking glasses, window glass, mirrors, Pyrex dinnerware, lightbulbs, plastic toys, polystyrene or Styrofoam (such as plastic cups or food trays), plastic wraps, aluminum foil, gardening or garage plastics, any #3, #4, #5 or #6 plastics. Commingled Recyclables: Place metal cans, glass and plastic bottles in the blue, 20-gallon round container at the curb. Check the bottom of the container to make sure the plastic is either #1 PETE or #2 HDPE. Rinse the containers and crush them to maximize capacity. Remove the caps and place them in the trash for collection with your regular trash for collection with your regular garbage. Newspapers: Clean newsprint and newspaper inserts only. Tie the newsprint with string or sturdy cord in bundles no higher than 12 inches. Place the bundles at the curb next to your recycling bins. Do not place newspapers in the blue rectangular mixed-paper container, or place newspapers in plastic bags, or tie mail or mixed paper in your newspaper bundles. Mixed Paper: Magazines, junk mail, cereal boxes and other non-wax-coated food boxes, greeting cards, gift boxes, brown paper bags (such as supermarket or shopping bags), nonmetallic wrapping paper or gift wrap, envelopes, office records, telephone books, file folders, receipt and books with the covers removed. Flatten boxes to maximize capacity. Placed mixed paper in the blue rectangular bin provided by the MCIA. Close the lid tightly when you leave the bin at the curb. Corrugated Cardboard: Layered cardboard with a center that is shaped into ridges, folds or grooves (such as shipping boxes and the packaging for most appliances or larger household items). Flatten the cardboard and tie the sheets into stacks no larger than 24 inches square and 24 inches high (anything larger than 24 inches will not be accepted). Textiles: Clean, dry clothing or fabric and other recyclable textiles such as shoes, belts or handbags. Place clothing or fabric larger than 12 square inches in the textile bag provided by the MCIA. Close the bag securely and leave it at the curb with your other recyclables. The collection crew will leave a replacement bag in its place. Comforters, pillows and rugs are not accepted. Changes in collection schedules due to weather or emergencies will be announced on radio stations WCTC 1450 AM, WMGQ 98.3 FM and NJ 101.5. The recycling drop off center in the public works yard is open Monday – Saturday from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm. Items accepted at the center include all materials collected curbside, motor oil, and automotive batteries. Household batteries may be dropped off at any building in the Township municipal complex. Major appliances are collected weekly by appointment only. Call 721-5600 ext. 6140. PAINT Old Bridge Township provides paint recycling on the second Saturday of each month from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Public Works yard. In addition, Middlesex County provides eight paint drop-off sites conveniently located in East Brunswick, Woodbridge, Dunellen, Helmetta, Middlesex, New Brunswick, South Brunswick and South Plainfield. Items accepted are: latex, water and oil-based paints, stains, varnishes, lacquers, thinners, paint in aerosol spray cans. Call 732-745-4170 for more information or www.mciauth.com
TIRES Middlesex County provides tire drop-off sites in Plainsboro, Metuchen, East Brunswick, and Woodbridge. Please call 732-745-4170 for dates and locations. Open to Middlesex County residents only (must show proof of residency). Check-in required. Maximum number of tires accepted per visit: 8. Automobile and light truck tires only. Oversized tires and tires from businesses or commercial interests will not be accepted. Go to www.mciauth.com for locations and hours.
BATTERY COLLECTION Batteries are accepted at the Old Bridge Public Library, located in the municipal complex. Batteries accepted include all types of alkaline and rechargeable batteries (C, D, AA, 9-volt, etc.); the button cell batteries found in watches, calculators and other small electronic items; and larger batteries, such as those found in cell phones, laptops, and camcorders.COMPUTER RECYCLING Old Bridge will accept computer and computer related items for recycling on the second Saturday of each month at the recycling center. The hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items accepted include monitors, scanners, modems, printers, cables, keyboards, towers, copy machines and CPU's. You may also bring computers to Hesstech with other consumer electronics.
CONSUMER ELECTRONICS RECYCLING Middlesex has a permanent drop-off site for broken or outdated consumer electronic items, located at the office of Hesstech, LLC - 45 Executive Ave., Edison. Hours: First Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; and the third Monday of each month from 12 noon - 4:00 p.m. Closed holidays and some weekend. This service is free to Middlesex County residents (proof of residency will be requested.) Items accepted include: computer equipment (including CPUs, monitors, keyboards, scanners, modems, printers, and cables), TVs, telephones, irons, flourescent lamps and thermostats and thermometers containing mercury. White Goods/Appliances White goods/appliances will be collected by appointment only. Call 732-721-5600 ext. 6140 to arrange an appointment. Please note: Contact your private garbage hauler for the disposal of items such as furniture, mattresses, and contractor debris. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program Household hazardous waste drop-off events will be held seven times this year at various locations throughout the County. HHW drop-off is free. However, you must be a resident of Middlesex County (proof of county residence is required, i.e. a drivers license). HHW is limited to residential waste only. Waste from commercial or industrial sources is not permitted. Containers larger than 5 gallons are not accepted. Items accepted include, but are not limited to: adhesives, aerosol cans, antifreeze, batteries (household or car), brake fluid, drain cleaners, driveway sealer, fluorescent light bulbs (no broken bulbs, please), gas/oil mix, herbicides, kerosene, latex paints, lighter fluid, mercury thermometers, motor oil, oil filters, oil based paints, oven cleaner, paint thinner, pesticides, petroleum lubricants, photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, propane tanks, stains/varnishes, thermostats, transmission fluid, used oil filers. Tires, empty containers, explosives & munitions, infectious waste and unknowns are not permitted - please do not bring these. Residents bringing asbestos containing material must pre-register Call 732-745-4170 for details. Asbestos must be doubled bagged (heavy plastic) and cannot weigh more than 300 pounds. Whenever possible, leave liquids in their original containers.
