If you were involved in an incident, such as a motor vehicle accident or theft and it was documented by an Old Bridge Township Police Officer with a case number and written report, you may receive a copy of the report if applicable.  Reports are generally available for review following five (5) days of the initial incident and must be picked up at the Old Bridge Police Records Bureau. The following information will assist you in obtaining a police report:  EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2010, THE RECORDS BUREAU WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC ON MONDAY AND FRIDAY.  IF YOU WISH TO OBTAIN A COPY OF A POLICE REPORT, YOU MAY DO SO ON TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

If you are requesting assistance with regard to gun permits, temporary handicap certificates, arrest reports or if you are a vendor, please dial Ext. 3230

If you are requesting information with regard to Motor Vehicle Accident Reports, traffic summonses or background checks (i.e., DYFS, employment), please dial Ext. 3231

For discovery related items and OPRA requests, please dial Ext. 3671.


Fees:

 

A. Accident reports 

    i.  At counter - $.10 per page
    ii. By mail - $5.00

B. Criminal case report (discovery) -
$5.00 for first 3 pages, $1.00 per page for each page thereafter.

C. DWI case report (discovery) - $5.00 for first 3 pages, $1.00 per page for each page thereafter. 

D. Other reports:
    i.  At counter - $.10 per page

Firearms Registration Procedures  -    EFFECTIVE APRIL 6, 2009

All applicants must reside in Old Bridge Township.  Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to obtain a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and twenty-one (21) years of age to obtain a Permit to Purchase a Handgun.

Initial Applicant Procedures:

1.  All applicants must complete a State of New Jersey STS-33 application for firearms purchaser identification card/application to purchase a handgun.  The  applications must be printed in black ink or typed.  If the application has been downloaded from the internet, applicant must print and sign two (2) originals.

2.  Applicants must supply the names and addresses of two (2) references.  Old Bridge Township Police Officers cannot be used as a reference.  Both references must reside in the State of New Jersey.

3.  All applicants must complete and sign "Part One" of the Consent for Mental Health Records Search (S.P.66).

4.  Applicant must supply a copy of a New Jersey driver's license with a current Old Bridge Township address.

5.  Applicant must sign a State of New Jersey Firearms Purchaser Identification Card (S.P. 645).

6.  Applicant must sign each Permit to Purchase a Handgun (SP671).

7.  Applicant must pay a $5.00 fee (cash only) for an initial Firearms Identification Card.

8.  Applicant must pay a $2.00 fee (cash only) for each Permit to Purchase a Handgun request.

9.  Applicant will receive a Sagem Morpho universal fingerprint form upon submission of an application.  Applicant must make an appointment with Sagem Morpho, Inc. to have fingerprints taken.  Instructions on scheduling an appointment for fingerprinting are outlined on the form.

Subsequent Application for Similar Permits:

1.  Within two (2) years of the initial application, applicant must submit to a Criminal History Name Check (SBI212A form).  A money order in the amount of $18.00 must be made out to the New Jersey Division of State Police (SBI).

2.  Over two (2) years, applicant must follow Initial Application Procedures.

Applicants may apply Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.


PLEASE NOTE:  As of May 1, 2009, all Firearm Application Forms, with the exception of Firearms Identification Cards and Permits to Purchase a Handgun and Criminal History Name Check Form (SBI212A), must be downloaded off the New Jersey State Police website at www.njsp.org. Once on the website, go to the "Services" dropdown menu and look for "Firearms Information".  Permit to Purchase a Handgun, Identification Cards and Criminal History Check forms will be supplied by the Old Bridge Township Police Department.

Property & Evidence

Lost and Found Property

Owner Known: Lost and found property that has been turned into the Old Bridge Police Department may be claimed by appointment only. Appointments may be scheduled by contacting (732) 721- 5600, ext. 3090.  Proof of ownership and proper identification are required.

Owner Unknown: All found property where the owner has not been identified must be held for a period of six (6) months, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-157. This is to allow the rightful owner to come forward or to be located by the police department. After this six month period, if the rightful owner has not been located, the finder may claim the property and become the new owner. You may contact the Identification Bureau at 732-721-5600, ext. 3090 to check the status of found property.

Property Recovered or Seized as Evidence

Property that is recovered or seized as evidence in the course of an arrest or criminal investigation is maintained by the Old Bridge Police until such time as the case is adjudicated or resolved in some other manner. Upon disposition of the case, suspects, witnesses or victims may come forward to claim their property. Individuals who intend to claim property must contact the officer or the detective who handled the case. Property will not be released without the officer's authorization. Proof that the case has been disposed of and that the property can be returned, may be required.  In a case where the Prosecutor's office is involved, the Prosecutor's office will provide written authorization for the release of property.

Weapons seized pursuant to a Domestic Violence Order are sent to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office property unit. Any return of weapons must be handled through that office.  For further information, please call 732-745-3300.
